Reproductive health vouchers showcased at Social Media Week, 13–17 February. Council vice president John Townsend will participate in a moderated discussion following the screening of "Kadi: Saving mothers and babies, one voucher at a time," a short film about using vouchers to provide comprehensive maternal health services in Kenya. Female genital mutilation/cutting online discussion. The International Network to Analyze, Communicate and Transform the Campaign Against FGM/C (INTACT), in collaboration with the UNFPA–UNICEF Joint Programme on FGM/C, hosted a forum, “Communicating Messages Against FGM/C: Role of Different Media Approaches,” to discuss the pros and cons of using mass media and explore alternative channels of communication in the campaign against FGM/C. The entire discussion, which took place in December 2011, is now available, in French, on the INTACT website. (offsite link)

Research Methods Course in Sexual and Reproductive Health, HIV, and Gender-based Violence. The Council jointly coordinates this course, which will take place in Johannesburg, South Africa, over three weeks in August 2012 (exact dates to be finalized). The closing date for applications is 2 March 2012. (more)

Bixby Fellowship application deadline extended: 31 January 2012. The Council’s Fred H. Bixby Fellowship Program expands training opportunities for social scientists and biomedical researchers in the health and population fields. The program is geared toward developing-country nationals in the early stages of their careers. (more)
